about organics
When you can, Choose Organic
While we still offer non-organic products we highly suggest you consider purchasing from our organic line if it is in your budget. While the immediate cost of organic fibers and fabrics is higher, our products will give you years of use, when properly cared for.
Choosing organics supports a sustainable world of non-toxic agricultural practices. In addition, organic cotton introduces no toxic residues into your home. By choosing organic you are showing your care and commitment for not only yourself but for future generations to come.
- • Organic cotton batting is lighter in weight and more buoyant than non-organic.
- • Organic cotton batting will pack down a bit more than 1/2 its original thickness. This means a futon that starts out as an 8” futon in time will be under 4”.
-
• Organic cotton and organic cotton and wool futons need to be flipped and rotated more frequently than non-organic cotton futons, once every two weeks for the first two months.
Wool
Wool is a naturally antimicrobial, mold and mildew resistant. It is hypoallergenic along with being flame retardant. When wool batting is used in the outer layer of the futon chemical flame retardant is not needed.
Wool has a wonderful quality of giving warmth in the cool weather and wicking away moisture in the warm weather. It’s a four season fiber.
Wool is available in our futons and in an assortment of pillows.
Kapok
Kapok is a sustainably harvested fiber produced from the seedpods of the rainforest tree known as the ceiba tree. It is a light, fluffy fiber we use to fill our throw pillows.
Buckwheat Hulls
Buckwheat hulls remain cool and will not warm up from body heat. They offer firm support in a sleep pillow or for our meditation pillows. Buckwheat hulls shift so you can conform the pillow to the shape you like. Our pillows are extra full so you can remove the filling as you choose. |
